Our organization offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. We have been working in Nigeria since February 1996. A Memorandum of Understanding between Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Federal Government of Nigeria facilitates this. We are at present co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, State and Local Government departments of health on various health projects.

Job Title: OT Nurse
Location: MSF OCA, NOMA Project, Sokoto

Main Objective and Responsibility of the Position
- Organise and carry-out all nursing activities related to the operating theatre (OT) running, according to MSF health protocols, universal hygienic standards and in coordination with the surgeon and anesthetist, in order to ensure a smooth functioning of the surgical activities (pre, during and post-operative care) offered to patients.
Generic Accountabilities
- Ensure the preparation of the material and equipment (checking the quantity and quality), in the OT and carry-out the reception, transport of the patient from the preparation room to the OT and ensuring his/her installation for surgery.
- Assist the surgeon and anaesthetist during the operation, anticipating their needs, in order to facilitate their job and helping throughout the whole process.
- Checks vital parameters of the patient with the nurse anaesthetist.
- Organize the patient’s transport and installation from the operating theatre to the recovery room and carry-out and/or supervise all the post-operative activities (used material collection, OT’s cleaning and disinfection, resetting all equipment and material back), in order to prepare the OT for next surgical intervention or any emergency.
- Implement and follow-up the hygiene, sterilization, asepsis and disinfection protocols and procedures at all times, in pre, during and post-operative activities, in order to ensure the patient and staff’s safety conditions. I.e. waste containers availability, sharps container, checking no material or needles remain in the surgical towels, placing instruments into soak container, take instruments/linen to sterilization unit, etc.).
- Supervise and train the nurse-aids and cleaners while in the OT in following all appropriate protocols and procedures, in order to ensure the quality of the healthcare given to patients. and train NS where applicable
- Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Follow user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning of any device.
- Control all equipment and material stock to be used in the OT, in order to ensure an efficient and rationale use of material resources while preventing damage and deterioration.
- Carry-out and supervise administrative procedures and documents (check identity of patient and his/her consent for the operation, fill in patients files, forms, statistics, quantitative surgical data collection, etc.), and report any problematic situations and cases arising, in order to have updated and correct information about the day-to-day activity and ensuring proper transfer of information.
- Participate in data and reporting.
- Intervene in support of other services whenever needed and work particularly in close collaboration with the accident, emergency department and with obstetrics.
MSF Section / Context Specific Accountabilities
- Work both in Main and Minor OT, assist in surgery and wound debridement.
- Supervise and actively participate in quality wound care for all Noma patients in the Minor OT and ensure wound care is carry-out according to MSF standards and protocols
- Participate in the planning on daily operation schedule during intervention period
- Work in collaboration with the psychosocial team in preparing patients for painful procedures such as wound dressings
- Work in collaboration with IPC supervisor to follow up on IPC measurements and hygiene in the OT
- Control all equipment and material stock to be used in the OT (carry-out inventories, checking its quality and its functioning)
- Carry-out and supervise administrative procedures and document in order to have updated and correct information about the day-to-day activity and ensuring proper transfer of information
- Work in collaboration with nursing activity manager, project pharmacy technician and medical team leader to ensure availability and control of equipment for intervention period and storage of this equipment after intervention period
- Participate in planning and implementation of other medical activities in the project in collaboration with other members of the medical team
- Will be required to work in IPD as a nurse in between intervention when OT is less busy or at any time when asked by supervisor
- Participate in patient education
- Attend ward rounds on Monday and Friday
- Carry-out on-the-job training for OT staff on equipment, sterilization and other procedures according to MFS protocols
- Attend medical and department meetings as scheduled.
- Give feedback to the nurse supervisor/NAM on regular basis.
Requirements (Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge

Job Description
- We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Medical Coordinator Support for coordination in Abuja.
Accountabilities / Responsibilities (Non-exhaustive list)
- Supporting the Medical Coordinator through delegated tasks and responsibilities including administrative tasks related to the coordination of work, ensuring good relationships with local and national authorities and ensuring adequate program management in the projects, according to MSF protocols, (para)medical standards, rules of hygiene and the standard precautions in order to ensure the delivery of quality medi-cal care for patients and their communities as well as to improve the health conditions of the targeted population.
- Assisting in the collection of information on national health policy (meetings, reports, articles, etc.), collecting and participating in the analysis of epidemiological data (meetings, reports, articles, etc.) from the projects
- Ensuring medical follow up of patients (treatment, improvement) in collaboration with the medical referent of the health structure and overseeing all medical expenses associated with the patient, in collaboration with the supervisors. Organize the administrative and medical information (reports, ongoing treatments), the discharge of patients and return to their homes
- Supporting and supervising the project teams and participating in the management of the medical team in the capital (recruitment, training, monitoring their work, vacation planning, assessments, etc.). Participating in briefings and debriefings of the (para) medical team members and promoting communication and active participation in the development of the project
- Responsible for implementation of National Staff health policy in collaboration with HR department including ensuring giving medical inputs at the time of recruitment. Education of the national staff on preventative measures and ensuring that they are following that in the mission.
- Participating in the management of the central pharmacy, advising and guiding the logistics team in the mission of drug stock management. Organizing the start-up, inventory and management of operational medical library according to the classification plan
- Participating in the data collection and management from the projects as well as preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reports and organizing · data archiving and medical reports in the project
- Performing other duties at the request of Medco (exceptional strengthening of a field team, involvement in evaluations, etc.)
Requirements
Education:
- Medical Doctor Diploma or equivalent in a related allied health with Masters in Epidemiology or Public Health.
Experience:
- Essential minimum of two years’ experience, previous experience with MSF is desirable, Training or experience in tropical medicine and / or public health, experience working in a developing country, Emergency experience.

Job Description
Accountabilities / Responsibilities (non-exhaustive list):
- Defining, coordinating and monitoring all pharmacy related activities in the Mission, according to MSF standards and values, the Medical Coordinator instructions and technical support from the section pharmacist and intersectional pharmacist, and with consideration of national and international laws and regulations, in order to ensure the quality and proper organization of medical supply process, procedures and protocols, the proper management of the medical stock in the projects and, in collaboration with the medical coordinator, the correct use of medicines and medical material.
- Supporting the HoM and MedCo in representing and defending MSF’s interests before the Ministry of Health and other local authorities or local suppliers for any issue concerning pharmaceutical supply, in order to ensure stock procurement in the projects while complying with the national laws and regulations and following MSF protocols.
- Ensuring a close follow up of the National Drug Supply particularly in projects where MSF is working in conjunction with MoH.
- Collaborating in budgeting and preparing drug and other medical material orders together with Medical and Logistic Coordinators.
- Supporting and participating in all drug and medical material supply processes and ensuring its overall efficiency and effectiveness. This involves regular technical visits to project sites to ensure appropriate follow up of activities and management of field pharmacies; collecting and analyzing stock indicators according to physical records and logistic across different projects and together with the Medical Coordinator taking corrective decisions when necessary and providing technical pharmacy support regarding pharmaceutical information, medication use (protocols and rational drug use), management of side effects, adherence issues etc.
- Planning and supervising, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under his/her res-possibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required. In case of integration of medical stock under the supply, this includes providing support to Supply Log in this capacity to ensure the medical stock and pharmacy management according to recommended guidelines/procedures.
- Responsible for applying and seeking approval for the purchase of narcotics, record keeping tools for narcotics from the FMOH approved zonal narcotic stores in the country.
- Advise & give feedback to MSF HQ, MSF Log, &HQ on national regulations regarding importation of medical items, registration, renewal of MSF pharmacies registration across the mission.
- Applying for permit to import and clear narcotics, controlled drugs, precursor, restricted and laboratory chemicals from NAFDAC.
Requirements
- Education: Essential Pharmacy Degree. Mandatory to be licensed with the pharmacist council of Nigeria and to dedicate his license to MSF for importation and supply of medicines.
- Experience: Essential minimum of two years’ experience in (hospital) pharmacy management, previous experience with MSF is desirable.
- Language: Fluent in reading and writing English.

- Short and long-term impact of displacement on host communities and their perceptions on humanitarian aid to IDPs.
- To have a better understanding of the farmer herder crisis in Benue and Middle Belt states.
- Analyse and understand the impact of the violence on the IDPs especially the farmers.
- Explore more on the plight of the herders since our programs are mainly focusing on the farmers.
- Impact of communal clashes on displacement.
IDP dynamics and MSF programs:
- Analyse how MSF programs designs influence and/or impact on IDP dynamics and vice versa particularly SGBV MSF activities.
- Make recommendations for more efficient, accountable and sustainable program designing.
Malnutrition:
- Understanding the underlying causes of chronic malnutrition Zamfara state in order to inform operations as well as advocacy options.
